Kathmandu- Since Wednesday, a video showing masked and bespectacled individuals in a meeting hall has gone viral on social media. The video was shared with claims that Mayor Balen Shah held a secret night meeting and that masked outsiders were active during the Gen-Z movement.
However, the video is seven months old. In February 2025 (Falgun 2081 BS), after the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal at KIIT University in Odisha, India, students expelled from the university gave interviews while wearing masks and glasses to protect their identities.

In the video, the students detailed the harassment, assault, and injustice they faced at KIIT. The video, originally posted by the Facebook page “Hami Nepal” on February 20, 2025, has been misrepresented as a recent event linked to Balen Shah and the ongoing movement.
Experts note that sharing such claims without verification can spread misinformation and create unnecessary political tension.
