Kathmandu. Former Miss Nepal and Miss World 2018 finalist Shrinkhala Khatiwada is once again in the spotlight, facing cyberattacks and public scrutiny amid Nepal’s ongoing Gen Z movement. The controversy centers on a $50,000 fund allocated for her “Beauty With a Purpose” project. In a recent video, Shrinkhala clarified that she had received only $20,000, which she used entirely for a development project in Nepal.

The issue escalated when filmmaker Sisan Baniya, Shrinkhala’s ex-boyfriend, raised doubts about the fund’s usage. Now, in a lengthy Instagram story, Sisan has issued a public apology, admitting that his emotionally driven remarks fueled unnecessary controversy. “I was carried away by emotions at the time,” he wrote. “I regret it and promise not to repeat such mistakes.”

Sisan addressed Shrinkhala as a “sister” and stressed that he had no intention of making personal attacks. However, he also maintained that clarity about the fund’s usage is still necessary. His apology has divided public opinion on social media—some welcomed his courage to admit mistakes, while others accused him of attempting damage control.

Shrinkhala, who earned global recognition for her social project during the Miss World pageant, continues to receive strong support from fans. Many argue that the controversy has placed her under undue pressure and reflects broader issues of online harassment and gendered attacks in Nepal’s public discourse.
