Kathmandu—Hamas’ armed wing has released a ‘farewell photo’ showing 48 Israeli prisoners held in Gaza, including Nepali Bipin Joshi.

Although the image has been made public, the actual condition of the prisoners remains unknown. The Times of Israel reported that Hamas aims to pressure the Israeli government and the prisoners’ families.

Hamas claimed that Israeli ground and air attacks have endangered the prisoners. According to Al Jazeera, the photo was released while Israeli forces continued operations to seize control of Gaza’s largest city.

The online post features both living and deceased prisoners, captioned ‘Ron Arad,’ referring to the Israeli Air Force captain who disappeared in Lebanon in 1986, whose fate remains uncertain.

Hamas stated alongside the photo that the release was prompted by Netanyahu’s refusal and Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir’s compliance, coinciding with the start of military action in Gaza City. This underscores Prime Minister Netanyahu’s stance against negotiating with Hamas.

Israeli officials believe around 20 prisoners may still be alive, while U.S. President Donald Trump suggested fewer than 20. Hamas has warned that ongoing attacks put the prisoners’ lives at risk.

On Saturday, millions of Israelis protested in Tel Aviv and other cities, demanding an immediate ceasefire and the safe return of all prisoners.
