Kathmandu – China’s Ministry of Water Resources has reported the formation of a large lake near Nepal, at the confluence of the Chochhen River and Purepu River. These rivers are major tributaries of the Trishuli River. As of Thursday morning, around 2 million cubic meters of water had accumulated in the lake, and another 3 million cubic meters is expected within the next three days — raising fears of a potential dam burst.
Chinese state broadcaster Global Times said authorities are closely monitoring the lake’s condition and conducting special analyses to predict possible flooding if the dam collapses. The ministry is actively coordinating emergency rescue operations and has urged vigilance not only in China but also across Nepal and India.
