Kathmandu — Co‑host United States has reached the Round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 after defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2–0 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on Thursday.
Goals came from Folarin Balogun in the 45th minute and Malik Tillman in the 82nd minute with a stunning free‑kick. Despite Balogun being sent off with a red card in the 64th minute, the U.S. held firm and added a second goal.
This marks America’s first knockout stage victory in 24 years, since reaching the quarterfinals in 2002. With this win, all co‑hosts — USA, Mexico, and Canada — are now in the Round of 16.
The U.S. will next face Belgium for a place in the quarterfinals.
