Prakash Kafle / Kathmandu: A French national found begging in the Pashupatinath Temple premises has been rescued, and the process for his repatriation has been initiated. After a video of him went viral on social media, active youth intervened and handed him over to the Gausala Police Station. The individual is being processed in coordination with the police, District Administration Office, and the Immigration Department. He is currently under the custody of the Immigration Department, while the French Embassy will provide accommodation and food until the repatriation process is complete.
The rescued person has been identified as 55-year-old Franck Rene Yves Nonnamour. He first came to Nepal in 2014 and had been visiting multiple times since, staying in Nuwakot. There, he was known to assist a government school. Preliminary investigations revealed that his visa had expired about two and a half months ago. He has been suffering from a long-term skin condition and was receiving Ayurvedic treatment in Nepal. He reportedly received a monthly allowance of approximately NPR 130,000 from the French government, which he had been collecting in Nepal through his mother.
However, after an accident involving his mother in France some time ago, financial support stopped, and he was unable to pay his hotel bills, which led him to the Pashupati area. Documents related to his stay at the hotel are reportedly still secure, while coordination is ongoing between the embassy and the hotel management regarding outstanding dues.
Meanwhile, he has claimed that some of his belongings were stolen in the Pashupati area. However, police sources confirmed that there is no record of him being involved in any criminal activity in Nepal.
Currently, the concerned authorities are coordinating to complete the necessary legal procedures to ensure his safe return to France.
