Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has strongly criticized the government’s recent move, describing it as a premature and poorly considered decision. She expressed concern over the step taken by the administration led by Balen Shah to implement the Karki Commission report.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Bhandari noted that the report is not yet complete, and arresting former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak under such circumstances is highly sensitive and could have long-term consequences.
She argued that such actions do not align with the Constitution, existing legal frameworks, or established democratic practices. According to her, implementing findings of an investigative commission requires due process, thorough analysis, and institutional consultation.
Bhandari warned that rushed decisions could weaken public trust in the rule of law and potentially lead to renewed instability and conflict in the country.
She also expressed disappointment that a government formed with a strong commitment to good governance would take such a step, and urged authorities to reconsider and withdraw the decision while upholding democratic values and constitutional norms.
