Ravi Lamichhane Warns Lawmakers Against the “Blindfold of Power”

Pressadda

Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu.  Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Ravi Lamichhane has issued a stern warning to his party’s lawmakers, asserting that the “blindfold of arrogance” often accompanied by political power must be removed immediately. Speaking at an orientation program for newly elected Members of Parliament at the Royal Tulip Hotel in Gwarko on Wednesday, Lamichhane emphasized that unlike traditional political forces—whom the public tolerated for over three decades—the RSP will not be granted such a grace period. He cautioned his colleagues that if the party fails to remain grounded and accountable, the increasingly conscious citizenry will not wait even 36 days, let alone 36 months, to reject them.

Addressing the party’s performance in the previous elections, Lamichhane interpreted the 21 seats won by the RSP as a strategic and “deliberate choice” by the voters. He argued that while the public could have granted a two-thirds majority, they chose to provide a limited mandate to ensure the new party does not become intoxicated by power. According to the RSP chief, the electorate used their ballots to give the new faces a trial period while simultaneously offering traditional parties a final opportunity to reform. He concluded by noting that any government—even those with a massive majority—that challenges the collective wisdom of the people will ultimately face a swift and decisive downfall.
