Rekha Bam Criticizes Government Decision, Says “Gen-Z Sacrifice Not Meant for Political Appointments

Pressadda

Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. Rekha Bam, the coordinator of the Gen-Z Front, has strongly criticized several decisions recently announced by the government. Her main objection concerns the government’s decision to appoint Adarsha Kumar Shrestha, the personal secretary to Prime Minister Sushila Karki, as the chairperson of the National Trust for Nature Conservation.

Reacting through social media, Bam said the decision contradicts the spirit of the street protests that demanded good governance, transparency, and an end to nepotism. She argued that appointing close associates of top leaders to influential positions could deepen public frustration.

In her statement, Bam wrote:

“While chanting slogans for good governance and against nepotism, my Gen-Z friends took bullets in their chests and heads. Thousands of us came to the streets, risking our lives. Do you know why? For the dream that this country could at least breathe the air of good governance.”

She further said that prime ministers and ministers should not distribute positions in councils, departments, or committees to their close associates as if they were farewell gifts.

In a strongly worded warning, Bam added:

“Be careful — that chair is stained red. The streets have not forgotten the blood, and a chair stained with blood will not elevate you.”

At the end of her message, Bam signed the statement as “on behalf of a possible martyr of the Gen-Z movement.”

Political observers say the strong reaction from youth leaders reflects growing dissatisfaction among younger generations regarding political appointments and governance practices.
