CPN UML Needs Structural ‘Reset’ After Public Rejection, Says Surendra Pandey

Pressadda

Prakash Kafle/ Kathmandu.  Senior leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), Surendra Pandey, has said the party must undertake a major structural and organizational “reset” following what he described as a clear rejection by voters.

In a statement shared on social media, Pandey questioned whether the party leadership still holds the moral authority to threaten disciplinary action against its own members after suffering what he called a significant ethical and political defeat.

He argued that at a time when the public has already delivered a harsh verdict through the ballot box, threatening action against party workers for speaking the truth would not be wise. Pandey also criticized attempts to attribute the election results to conspiracy or internal sabotage. According to him, internal betrayal might affect a margin of 5,000 to 10,000 votes, but it cannot explain a massive difference of 40,000 to 50,000 votes.

Describing the situation as a message from voters, Pandey said the outcome reflects public dissatisfaction with the party’s current functioning style and rigidity rather than any organized conspiracy.

He further warned that if the party continues to believe that it can simply wait for other parties to fail before returning to power, such thinking could prove harmful not only for the party but also for the country.
