4.7 Percent Votes Invalid in House of Representatives Election

Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. The Election Commission of Nepal has reported that 4.7 percent of the ballots were invalid in the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21.

According to Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC, this percentage includes invalid votes recorded in both the first-past-the-post and proportional representation voting systems.

Data released by the commission shows that in the parliamentary election conducted in Mangsir 2079, the invalid vote rate stood at 5.06 percent, while the 2074 election recorded 5.18 percent invalid ballots.

Similarly, 4.96 percent of the votes were invalid in the second Constituent Assembly election held on Mangsir 4, 2070. In the first Constituent Assembly election on Chaitra 28, 2064, the share of invalid votes was 5.15 percent.

The commission noted that compared with the last five national elections, the proportion of invalid votes this time is slightly lower on average.
