Unity Needed to Protect Historic Left Movement: Pampha Bhusal

Pressadda

Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu.  Communist leader Pampha Bhusal has said that the current political situation in Nepal has made unity among leftist forces more important than ever.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Thursday organized by the Motidevi Memorial Center to honor inspirational women and release a documentary, Bhusal warned that if communist and leftist groups continue moving forward separately, none of them will be able to sustain their political presence.

She stressed that only through unity among leftist parties can the sacrifices, dedication, and struggles of the historic left movement be justified and preserved.

Bhusal also criticized the growing trend of what she described as the “cheapening” of politics in Nepal. According to her, some individuals are reaching party leadership or gaining political opportunities merely through symbolic gestures such as offering khada and tika, which she described as a sign of political distortion.

Furthermore, she highlighted that the achievements of the women’s movement in Nepal are the result of long and difficult struggles. The increasing participation of women in politics, the judiciary, administration, and security sectors today, she noted, reflects the outcomes of those persistent efforts.
