A meeting has taken place between Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Vice Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), and Bishwadeep Pandey, a young leader from the Nepali Communist Party. The two leaders discussed the current political developments in the country, the recent election outcomes, and the possibility of broader unity among left-leaning forces. Both Paudel and Pandey had contested the parliamentary election from the Rupandehi-2 constituency but were unsuccessful, while Sulav Kharel emerged victorious from the same seat. Speaking after the meeting, Pandey said the evolving political scenario has highlighted the need for closer cooperation and possible alignment among communist, leftist, progressive, and forward-looking political groups. According to him, such unity could help provide a stronger and more stable political direction for the country.
During their conversation, the leaders also touched upon the idea of leadership transition within communist parties. Pandey noted that there was discussion about giving senior leaders a respectful role as advisors or guardians while gradually promoting a new generation into active leadership positions. They also discussed ensuring stronger representation of youth and women in party structures and creating clear rules in the party constitution to guarantee fair distribution of responsibilities and opportunities based on merit and capability.
Another point raised in the discussion was the possibility of setting clear limits within party statutes on how many times a person could hold major positions such as member of parliament, minister, prime minister, president, or speaker.
Pandey further said he suggested that adopting a “socialist” identity in the party’s name and ideology could potentially help leftist forces regain the kind of political strength they once had in the 2017 elections.
