Prakash kafle/Kathmandu. The Chief Election Officer’s office has officially handed the certificate of election to Matrika Yadav of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) for Dhanusha-1, despite ongoing disputes over the final vote count. The controversy arose after the candidacy of Kishori Shah Kamal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) was annulled, leaving questions about the final tally. According to preliminary results, Yadav received 10,403 votes, while Nepali Congress candidate Rampaltan Sah secured 9,502 votes and CPN-UML candidate Ramchandra Mandal received 9,315 votes.
Although RSP candidates collectively received over 13,000 votes, the annulment of Shah Kamal’s candidacy prevented the publication of their results. On February 18, the Election Commission had canceled Shah Kamal’s nomination, prompting him to file a writ at the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court had directed that the final result for Constituency No. 1 not be announced until the writ was resolved. Nonetheless, Yadav pressed for declaration of results and the issuance of the election certificate, citing his lead in votes.
