Gagan Thapa resigns as president

Kathmandu. Internal discussions have intensified within the Nepali Congress after the party failed to achieve the expected results in the House of Representatives elections. In the meantime, a meeting has been held between party president Gagan Thapa and vice president Bishwaprakash Sharma. Sources have said that the discussions between the two top leaders, which began in New Baneshwor since the evening, are continuing. During the meeting, president Thapa said that he will resign from the post, taking moral responsibility for the party’s defeat.

Thapa has expressed the view that it would be appropriate for him to resign, saying that he should take responsibility for the party’s defeat. “Taking responsibility for the party’s defeat, it is appropriate for me to resign, so I am resigning,” he told Vice President Sharma in the discussion. However, Vice President Sharma has suggested that the president not resign immediately. He said that the election result is not just a matter of individual weakness but a result of the overall situation and a matter of common ownership. This is more of our defeat than just the victory of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). But the culprit is neither one person nor the working committee that came out of the special general convention, Sharma said, according to the source.

He believes that there is no need to resign over the results of the new working committee, where candidatures were registered within five days of its formation and the election was held within about 50 days, but rather that we should carefully review the situation and move forward. This result is due to the past situation. Not because of our role in the past 5 days, Sharma has reminded Gagan in this way.
