Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. Senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Balen Shah, has been elected to the House of Representatives with the highest number of votes ever recorded in Nepal’s parliamentary election history.
Shah, who was also considered a prime ministerial candidate, defeated former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli by a huge margin in Jhapa–5. Shah secured 68,348 votes, while Oli received 18,734 votes. This vote count is considered the highest in the history of parliamentary elections in Nepal.
Previously, in the 2017 House of Representatives election, UML Chairman K.P. Sharma Oli had won from Jhapa–5 with 57,139 votes. In the same election year, UML’s Parbat Gurung was elected from Dolakha with 55,361 votes.
Similarly, in the 2023 by-election, RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane won from Chitwan–2 with 54,176 votes.
From Chitwan–3, RSP candidate Sobita Gautam had secured victory with 59,277 votes. Lamichhane also received 54,402 votes in another election in Chitwan–2. In Morang–6, RSP candidate Rubina Acharya won the seat with 55,513 votes.
Likewise, Badan Kumar Bhandari was elected from Kavre–2 with 53,344 votes.
From Rupandehi–2, Sulav Kharel also secured victory with more than fifty thousand votes, receiving 56,550 votes.
