Professor Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, a cardiologist and nephrologist and the academic dean at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, has been listed among the world’s top scientists in the latest “Global Scientific Impact Ranking” published by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier. He is one of 31 Nepali scientists recognized within the top 2 percent globally.
Dr. Sharma has spent the last 25 years researching snakebite treatment, rheumatic diseases, heart ailments, and kidney disorders. He also represents Nepal in WHO’s global snakebite program. Former BPKIHS faculty member Dr. Suman Rizal, now WHO Delhi’s Director of Communicable Diseases, is also included in the list.
NASC’s Dr. Niranjan Koirala explained that the ranking is based on Scopus data, citation impact, and overall research output. Dr. Sharma said this recognition is a proud moment for Nepal and highlighted that medical science can progress only through continuous research. He encouraged young researchers to pursue science with discipline, dedication, and consistency.
