Kathmandu — The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has collected Rs 238.7 million from 35 industries that consumed electricity through dedicated and trunk lines during the load-shedding period.
According to the NEA, 25 new industries have paid their first installment, while 10 industries that had previously defaulted have resumed installment payments. The total dues from these 35 industries amount to Rs 5.94 billion, of which Rs 5.70 billion remains outstanding.
These premium charges date back to Magh 2072 to Baisakh 2075, when several industries used dedicated and trunk power lines for uninterrupted electricity supply.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Kulman Ghising expressed gratitude to the industrialists for taking responsibility toward the state by beginning to clear their dues.
He stated, “Industries still have the option to approach the Electricity Regulatory Commission or the courts. However, once they start paying installments, we trust they will continue doing so. The government is always ready to address the genuine concerns of the industrial sector.”
Earlier, the NEA had issued a 21-day public notice in Ashoj urging industries to clear their dues. When many failed to comply, the authority disconnected power lines in two phases on Kartik 4 and 7.
