Kathmandu — Former Miss Nepal Shrinkhala Khatiwada has spoken out against the viral ‘Nepo Baby’ trend and the recent Instagram ‘unfollow campaign’ targeting celebrity kids.

In two detailed videos, she denied claims of living a privileged lifestyle, stressing that her life was simple before winning Miss Nepal. “Before Miss Nepal, there was no luxury in my life. I was just a normal girl living an ordinary life,” she said.

She clarified that her student life and daily routines were already visible on Instagram, long before fame. According to her, only after winning Miss Nepal did she get opportunities to travel and experience the wider world. While she admitted she never had to worry about paying rent, she revealed that her parents had sold ancestral property to fund her and her brother’s education.

Khatiwada expressed respect for the Gen Z anti-corruption movement, but noted that she was unintentionally placed at the center of the narrative. She emphasized that her story was used to amplify the movement’s message.

Breaking down her finances, she explained that her Harvard studies were funded by brand endorsements and her own income. She disclosed earnings of over NPR 30 million from brand ambassadorships, ribbon-cutting events, and social media posts.

“Even though the criticism was hurtful at times, I want to take it positively because it gave strength to the movement,” she concluded.
