Kathmandu—The Nepal government has declared 72 individuals who died during the September 9–10 (Bhadra 23–24) Gen Z protests as martyrs. Each family of the deceased will receive NPR 1 million, and injured protesters will receive free medical treatment.

According to Chief Secretary Eknarayan Aryal, 59 protesters, 10 detainees, and 3 security personnel lost their lives. Another 191 people, including 134 protesters and 57 police officers, were injured and are receiving hospital treatment.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed measures to end corruption, ensure good governance, and promote economic equality, in line with the aspirations of the country’s youth. She emphasized using domestic resources for compensation and reconstruction of damaged government infrastructure.

Karki also stated that the interim government aims to hand over responsibilities to a newly elected parliament within six months. Chief Secretary Aryal highlighted the need to prioritize budget allocation for rebuilding and restoring damaged offices and security facilities.
