Progress on Delimitation, Trade Resumption, and Diplomatic Engagement
India and China have agreed to form an Expert Group under the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) to explore early solutions for boundary delimitation. This marks a significant step forward in resolving long-standing border tensions.
During Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to India, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NSA Ajit Doval, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The leaders discussed ways to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and reaffirmed their commitment to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable framework for resolving the dispute.
Key outcomes include:
- Formation of an Expert Group to accelerate boundary talks
- Creation of a Working Group to improve border management
- Expansion of military communication mechanisms to eastern and middle sectors
- Agreement to resume direct flights and reopen border trade routes
China also expressed willingness to supply India with fertilizers, rare earth materials, and tunnel boring machines, reversing previous export restrictions.
Prime Minister Modi confirmed his upcoming visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, signaling a thaw in bilateral relations.
