In Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, an 18-year-old teenager has been arrested for attempting to poison his uncle. According to police, the teenager, unable to tolerate his uncle’s harsh behavior, crushed leaves from a poisonous plant called oleander and added them to miso soup.

On July 17, during a meal, the uncle noticed an unusual taste in the soup and spat it out. Shortly afterward, he experienced numbness in his mouth and stomach pain and was rushed to the hospital. Tests confirmed the presence of oleandrin, a toxic substance.

During questioning, the teenager admitted, “I couldn’t tolerate my uncle’s harshness, so I decided to harm him.”

Oleander is an evergreen plant with red or white flowers, and its branches and leaves are poisonous. Fortunately, the 53-year-old uncle has fully recovered and returned home.
